A love letter to air drying

A love letter to air drying

You know we’re big supporters of reduced-heat styling at White Hot. We love anything that keeps hair looking brighter, shinier and healthier, rather than frying and yellowing our strands. That’s not to say we don’t use heat at all, but today I wanted to write a love letter to the art of the air dry.

Whenever anyone mentions stubborn brassiness, it’s my first step in the solution.

So, what is air drying?

Not using any heat after washing your hair. Not even a quick blast with the hairdryer. Want to take it a step further? Don’t reach for the straighteners or curling tongs after. Embrace your natural wave.

Why air dry?

Simply put, it is healthier and more gentle for your hair. Less heat damage, less singeing your strands, less breakage. Secondly, if you use heated stylers consistently, you may notice a brassy tinge in your hair, yellowing, dullness. For some, it is instant. One use is enough to cause yellowing… because yellowing = burning your hair. Scary thought! Ever noticed the top of your hair or fringe yellowing faster? This is why.

Where to start? Hydration and de-frizzing is key when air drying, as heated stylers and dryers work to smooth and groom….whereas when your hair is doing its natural thing, it can be a little more unpredictable - something I actually love. When washing, be sure to keep up your conditioning step and then have your Lifeshine Oil handy post wash. I love to add a little onto wet hair after washing, then add a drop more a couple of times as it is drying and also when it is completely dry, just to aid the de-frizzing process. It helps define curls, de-tangle and boost moisture.

If you feel wedded to your straighteners this may not sound like your cup of tea, but why not give it a try? Brighter silver is a win all on its own!

We may also just have another solution waiting in the wings to help you nail your air-dry routine….stay tuned.

We will be sharing more very soon! In the next couple of weeks we will be sharing a few top air drying tips, such as how to create your own heatless waves, how to diminish frizz AND a couple of dos and don’ts.

Feel free to send any questions to us on Facebook or Instagram. This year, we’re embracing the natural wave, are you?

As always, reach out with anything you need either on our social pages or via [email protected] if you prefer to chat there. Keep sending your silver selfies too! We love to hear from you.
